Re-post: Kingdom of Style- http://www.kingdomofstyle.net/
James Hock has returned this season with a youthful, cheery collection. Neon pink and green jostle alongside monochrome gingham for our attention and silhouettes are kept loose and playful.
Whilst it is a spring summer collection, it does feel like it could traverse all seasons with the simple addition of heavier fabrics. Neon is big (again) for spring and it’s lovely to see it done in quite a whimsical way by Hock. The neon fabric is sliced in places to create draped lengths of fluorescence, checks become oversized at times and the addition of large wooden studs adds a playful element to the collection.
There are so many bits to this collection that probably shouldn’t work - circular bras, double tiered trousers, shredded neon nylon – yet I feel Hock has deliberately played with these seemimgly unworkable elements by way of a challenge, and he gets away with it. I admit that I’m not 100% sure what Hock is saying with this collection – if there is a deeper meaning that I’m not seeing – but I’m tempted to say I’m not too bothered as I feel the pieces don’t need any kind of indepth analysis. You either like it or you don’t I perhaps it’s one of those instances when context doesn’t really matter. Either way, this is how I’d like to be wearing neon for spring.
